We’ve been taking a little break from crossing items off our Bucket List as students begin their departures for the Fall semester. We wish all of them the best of times and hopefully they will get to cross some items off their Bucket Lists while abroad too!
Just to recap, we’ve gone surfing in Australia, held a baby panda in China, seen a show at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in England, witnessed the dramatic Torres del Paine in Patagonia Chile, and written about it all the way through.
Today we have a very special bucket list request that was sent in. They want to “learn Spanish and come back with a foreign boyfriend.” Oh sweetie, don’t we all. But don’t worry, it’s definitely possible!
Lindsay Woychick was studying abroad in Bilbao, Spain during the 2011-2012 school year, when she met Fernando Garcia Calvo. One of Lindsay’s Basque friends, Janire, introduced the couple. They began dating in February 2012. Not only did Lindsay return to the States with a long-distance, foreign boyfriend, but this last August 18, 2015 they got married!

Lindsay and Fernando met in Bilbao, Spain while Lindsay was studying abroad. This last August they got married.
Here’s what Lindsay had to say: “I wanted to pass along a recent photo from my wedding. I met my husband studying abroad in Bilbao during 2011-2012. We got married in Boise, Idaho on August 18 and just got back from our honeymoon on the Camino de Santiago. We will continue to live in Getxo, not too far away from where I lived during my studies. USAC has changed my life, and I couldn’t be more thankful for it. Chico’s program is so impressive, and I hope it continues to grow.”
Well way to up the wedding expectations, Lindsay.
But really, we are all so happy for Lindsay and Fernando. It is so amazing to see how studying abroad can truly change your life.
Lindsay and Fernando, congratulations on your beautiful day! We wish the both of you a life full of happiness.
P.S. Don’t forget to send in your Bucket List requests and check back in for the next item we’re crossing off.
