Everyone has something they want to accomplish in their life. As we’ve seen in the previous weeks, it could be facing the Australian waves and surfing in Gold Coast, having your first face to face encounter with baby pandas, seeing a show at the famous Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, witnessing the dramatic Torres del Paine in Patagonia Chile or even meeting the love of your life.

This photo, taken by Jonathan Carral, shows candles burning inside a Buddhist temple near Chengdu, China.
Today, we are going to get in touch with our inner peace and meditate with monks in a Buddhist temple. Several of our locations offer the opportunity to tour and experience the atmosphere of these Buddhist temples. Students studying in Bangalore, India have the opportunity to go on a field trip to The Golden Temple, a Tibetan Buddhist temple where you can speak with some of the monks. Those in Seoul, Korea visit a traditional Korean Buddhist temple in one of their ancient villages.
And here, you can see students often hike up the hill above Chiang Mai, Thailand where they then can visit the Wat Doi Suthep Buddhist Temple. The beauty of the hike itself is enough to make anyone want to make the trek up, but the prospect of the Wat Doi Suthep Temple and the culture that has been created in the Hillside Tribe village that resides there, draws people too.
Those who do enter the temple get to see a new culture.
There are several opportunities for students to have this experience. It’s an incredible opportunity for students to see the Buddhist culture and the influence it has on the different regions.
Students often say that they found themselves or learned more about their capabilities wh le studying abroad. This could easily be one of those places to do so.
There are thousands of things to see, do and experience around the world. It doesn’t matter where you start or where you end. As long as you experience what you set out to, and everything else along the way, you’ve succeeded. You’ve conquered. And when you return from your time abroad, you’ll see what it means to be changed for the better.
Don’t forget to check back in to see what we’re crossing off of the Bucket List next. And if you have something you’d like to see us cross off, or if you’d like to share what you were able to cross off while you were abroad, email us at studyabroad@usac.unr.edu.
