USAC Viterbo ranked best for language immersion

The University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) Viterbo program ranked 7th on Go Overseas “10 Best Study Abroad Programs in Italy” list. Go Overseas, a popular travel website often used by students researching the best programs to study abroad, said that USAC’s Viterbo program is the best on the list for language immersion.

“One of the major benefits of this program is the opportunity to enroll in intensive language tracks for all levels of Italian speakers,” the list said. “In addition to language courses, you’ll also choose from classes like Italian cuisine, art, history, and Roman civilization.”

Viterbo is a small and historic city in Italy with a rich artistic legacy and an energetic university community. The program is ideal for students interested in experiencing Italy’s rich culture away from English-speaking tourist areas. USAC is unique because it doesn’t offer programs in cities like Rome or Florence — destinations that are often expensive and focused on tourism.

Go Overseas’ list notes that classes are arranged in a way that gives students long weekends to travel, making the program a great opportunity for students to immerse in Italian culture while also exploring new cities and countries.

The list also recognizes that students on USAC’s Viterbo program gain language experience outside of the classroom. “Alumni had many opportunities to immerse themselves in the Italian language both in the classroom and local community,” Go Overseas said in the article.

The Viterbo program is a specialty program that is supported by Resident Director Francesca Del Giudice, a Viterbo native who started as the Viterbo program coordinator in 2006, when the program opened. Del Giudice and Program Assistant Luisa Quatrini support students as they navigate life and studies in Viterbo.

Go Overseas compiled the list based on reviews from their online community, where the Viterbo program has received 4.95 out of 5 stars.
