Six USAC program cities rank best for Gen Z

USAC program host cities rank high on world’s best list for young people

Time Out’s list of the best 20 cities in the world for young people includes six University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) study abroad program host locations.

Each year, Time Out, a travel publication, publishes a list of the top cities compiled from surveys of more than 18,500 citizens around the world. This year, the magazine created a second list filtering the responses to those under 30, to account for the generational considerations in what makes a city great.

Many of the top considerations include culture, walkability, and affordability. USAC cities that make the list include:

  • 2nd place: Melbourne, Australia, where survey respondents said that their city was diverse and inclusive. 96% of respondents gave high ratings to the city’s arts and culture scene and many ranked it very high in quality-of-life measurements. USAC students take classes at Deakin University.
  • 10th place: Shanghai, China, where 96% of young people rated the city’s public transportation highly. Shanghai also received a top score for overall happiness. Students can take classes at Shanghai Normal University.

Bonus: Edinburgh, Scotland. USAC offers programs in Stirling, Scotland at University of Stirling, and St Andrews, Scotland at University of St Andrews. Both cities are near Edinburgh, a city known for its green spaces, access to nature, and walkability.

Bonus: Berlin, Germany. While Berlin is not a USAC program location, USAC participants study in Lüneburg, Germany, which offers an optional tour to Berlin. Berlin is known for its food, art, and culture.
