The 49th G7 Summit, a high-profile intergovernmental political forum where world leaders discuss solutions to global issues, held their gathering in Hiroshima, Japan on May 19 – 22, 2023. University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) Hiroshima Program host university, Hiroshima University (HU), hosted several events, including discussions about nuclear disarmament, food security, and climate change.
Ryunosuke Nakamura, a student enrolled in the USAC Heredia Program from HU, was one of 17 student volunteers who served as an interpreter for event attendees.
“The G7 Summit highlighted the significance of Hiroshima’s history as one of the cities exposed to the atomic bomb. My involvement as a student volunteer provided me with valuable experiences in translation and a great addition to my resume, contributing to my personal and professional growth.”
More than 30 students volunteered with translation and hospitality services for the event, which served guests from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Comoros, Cook Islands, European Union, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, and Vietnam
