Three University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) students have been awarded the MERIT scholarship which covers their dormitory and meal plan fees for their entire USAC Gwangju 2025-26 Yearlong program.
Mikkel Chynoweth, from University of Alaska, Fairbanks, Afton Barr from University of Wyoming, and Rylee Holmquist from University of Maine were chosen by USAC’s partner university Chonnam National University (CNU) to receive the scholarship. Students interested in receiving this scholarship are automatically considered when they apply for the program, no separate application is needed.
To qualify for this reward, eligible students are evaluated by CNU on a point-based system that assesses their cumulative grade point average (CGPA), both English and Korean language proficiency test scores, and their study plans. Five students are chosen each semester based on these points: CGPA (40 pts), Language scores (30 pts), Essay (15 pts), Study Plan (15 pts), Inbound Program participation (10 pts). An additional 10 points is awarded to students who are returning to CNU.
Additional scholarship opportunities are available on the USAC Scholarships and discounts page, which also includes a list of External scholarships and databases.
