Six students have been awarded the London Met Diversity Scholarship for Spring 2025. All are enrolled in the University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) London program. The recipients are:
- Kaelen Baly from Prairie View A&M
- Amy Benson from Minnesota State University, Moorhead
- Morgandy Erickson from University of Nevada, Las Vegas
- Sonia James from University of Nevada, Reno
- Sydnee O’Brien from University of Nevada, Reno
- April (June) Vargas from Georgia State University
The diversity scholarship was established by London Metropolitan University to help students from underrepresented backgrounds overcome barriers that prevent them from pursuing an international education. Each student will receive £1,000 (approximately $1,250) to lower their tuition.
“This scholarship means so much to me as it provides me with extra support in achieving my dream of studying abroad,” Morgandy said. “I stayed at the university closest to my home to open the opportunity by saving money and this scholarship especially helps.”
Scholarships are often awarded through a competitive review process, but do not let that discourage you from completing an application.
“To any prospective study abroad students, a piece of advice I would offer to you is to not count yourself out,” Kaelen said. “With these opportunities, I know the inclination is strong to feel unqualified and reluctant to even apply. However, I’d push against that sensation and encourage you to apply to whatever scholarship or fellowship you see, because that simple act will greatly increase your odds and you could seriously end up surprising yourself.”
