University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC)’s worldwide tapestry is about to become more vibrant with the launch of its new program in Rabat, Morocco. USAC invites students to deepen their cultural awareness, explore their curiosity, and expand their learning in this dynamicNorth African capital.

USAC Rabat offers three- and four-week programs in January and June 2027. Students explore souks, historic sites, and daily life in a capital city shaped by African, European, and Middle Eastern influences.

Rabat’s distinctive cultural and social landscape also provides exceptional opportunities for immersive learning, including connecting students with local businesses and organizations supporting education, women’s empowerment, public health, and environmental initiatives.

“The diversity of programming and program locations is a fundamental piece of USAC’s DNA. We believe in creating authentic, meaningful educational opportunities in locations that stand out in unique ways. We selected Rabat purposely because it’s not the most-expected study-abroad city — and because it provides an affordable, immersive, and robust cultural context — reasons important to USAC,” says Dr. Alyssa Nota, Ph.D., USAC CEO and President.

“This new program also reflects USAC’s expansion of curricular and geographic offers with the goal of supporting more students in their academic journeys. I foresee that we will continue to expand the course options to include Francophone and regional studies, internships, and more in this remarkable location.”

USAC Rabat is hosted at the Center for Cross Cultural Learning (CCCL), located in the heart of the Rabat Medina. Students study Moroccan culture, society, and Arabic while living in nearby homestays with families who have partnered with the institution for decades.

“We’re honored to partner and collaborate with CCCL’s experienced administrators and faculty to create this remarkable immersion opportunity for USAC students. I’m also happy to announce that veteran USAC Resident Director Dr. Jeremy Doughty will be on-site to guide the students in his thoughtful and inspiring way.”

Dr. Doughty brings nearly 20 years of experience in international education and has lived and worked in Germany, Ukraine, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. He holds a Ph.D. from Bowling Green State University and has worked across advising, teaching, leadership, and program development roles throughout his career.

“After serving as the USAC England Resident Director for five years, I’m excited to begin this next chapter with USAC Rabat,” says Dr. Jeremy Doughty, Ph.D., USAC’s academic innovation & research specialist.

“I’m looking forward to supporting students as they navigate daily life in Morocco, engage deeply with the local community, and experience Rabat as a dynamic place to live, learn, and grow. I’m also eager to return to the classroom to teach Intercultural Communication & Community Engagement, a new service-learning course.”
