‘Tis the season of Spring Commencement! We’re endlessly impressed by our well-traveled scholars, so it’s no surprise we’re seeing a lot of to-be graduates being honored across the globe.
Just in from our San Ramón, Costa Rica program, five of the graduating seniors had a *surprise* pre-grad graduation ceremony.
Sent from Carlos, San Ramón – Resident Director.
During the second to last week in San Ramón, Costa Rica, we held a USAC-style graduation for our 5 graduating seniors. We had everyone in on the secret except for our seniors (Shh! It’s a surprise), and we pretended they were all needed for an impromptu meeting at the office, only to find they were given special notes inviting them to their graduation. As they walked down the stairs, they were given graduation caps made out of poster board. As they continued, they walked to the classic graduation song of “Pomp and Circumstance.” When they finally made it down to the stage, the rest of our program was waiting to surprise them with clapping and cheering. They were given a convocation speech by a fellow student and brought more than a few of us to tears. We finished up with cake and refrescos provided by the staff, and grew even more united by this shared experience. We were all brought together, students and staff, to recognize the significance of graduation. Needless to say, it was a great day!

Since we’re speaking on graduation, we’ve recently had USAC alumni receive their sashes to wear during their graduation ceremony — representing the country they had studied abroad in! Including past Costa Rican program alumni!
See for yourself:
From us to you, we wish all graduating seniors the very best as they continue to move forward with their careers and lives ;D
