During the Spring 2018 semester, four USAC students participated in the Miss International Flower Bloom Beauty Contest in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Below is one student, Jessica Goldstein’s, recap of what it was like to be involved in this local event.
For the past month, I have been studying in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Through my program, USAC, I have experienced several special events such as visiting temples, attending special dinners, volunteering at an orphanage, and more. In addition to these events, this past weekend, I had the opportunity to take part in Miss International Flower Bloom Beauty Contest 2018 in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
The day consisted of driving to the site where it was held, getting my hair, makeup, and outfit done, making new friends, and then of course, participating in the beauty contest. I have never experienced anything quite like this before, and I am very grateful I did.
The makeup and outfits were stunning, and I felt honored to wear Thai traditional clothing. It was also exciting to walk on stage in front of such a big crowd. I felt completely welcomed as a participant in the Flower Bloom Festival. During my time participating in this event, I had a lot of fun speaking to the other contestants. It was very fun to go through this experience together since it was the first time participating in a beauty contest for many of us.
Overall, this event was a very special experience for me, and I had so much fun immersing myself in Thai culture.
