Justine advises for the England, Scotland, Norway, & Sweden programs
I was born, raised, and currently live in the Sierra Foothills of Northern California. I have worked at USAC for the past five years and have a BA in Fine Arts from San Jose State University. I studied abroad for a year at the University College Dublin, in Ireland. In my spare time I enjoy eating sushi, watching crime shows, cooking, being outside with my two dogs, and exploring new places and cultures.
Where did you study abroad?
What is your favorite memory from your time abroad?
Some of my favorite times from my study abroad were when family and friends from home came to Ireland to visit me. It was really fun to be able to tour them around my home away from home and now they have a bit of Ireland in their heart, just like me.
What is your favorite place you’ve traveled?
Kiruna, Sweden! It’s wayyyyyyyyy north, up in the Arctic Circle. It was such a memorable trip because I went with my mom and my best friend. We got to do so many amazing things: saw the Northern lights and the famous Ice Hotel and Bar, went dog sledding, fed some reindeer…and all in negative temperatures!
If you could go on any USAC program, what would it be and why?
It would definitely be St Andrews, Scotland. The university where our students study, the University of St Andrews, was founded in the 15th century, was Scotland’s first university, and looks straight out of Harry Potter. I love that St Andrews is a smaller coastal town and is close to Edinburgh. I’m obsessed with all things Scotland (even honeymoon’d there…), especially their history, so I would truly love to be able to take Scottish history courses while actually living in Scotland. USAC and the university also have wonderful opportunities for USAC students in terms of the field trips offered (hello Nessie at Loch Ness!), and student clubs to join.
What’s on your bucket list?
- Tons of traveling (isn’t that a given if you work for a study abroad company?) – but I travel to one international location per year, Japan is next hopefully. Domestically, I’m dying to go to New Orleans.
- Learn more about wine, I love winetasting
- See a Cirque de Soleil show
- Eat at a Michelin 3-star restaurant
- Become awesome at making homemade bread
If you could describe your life in one meme, what would it be?
