The demand for bilingual workers in the U.S. has doubled in the last five years. More than ever, employers value and are looking for candidates that can speak more than one language. That’s why language learning continues to be an important aspect of college degrees and why many students turn to study abroad to earn foreign language credits.
Whether you’re a language major, minor, or simply want to increase your language skills, USAC has an online program that will earn you up to one year of college-level foreign language credits in one semester, all online.
How to Earn One Year of Foreign Language Credits Online
USAC’s online intensive language offerings allow you to get a jump start on fulfilling your foreign language requirement or making headway in your major, minor, or as a professional. In an online intensive language program, you can learn from USAC’s best instructors around the globe and progress in the language in a fun and interactive online environment. You can also combine language courses with other disciplines to fulfil additional academic requirements.
What Languages are Available?
Our language programs are offered through our Global Perspectives program. Through this program you can choose from the following languages:
Why is Language Learning Important?
We already mentioned that knowing a second language can get you ahead in the workforce but being bilingual allows you to communicate cross culturally and provides you with an international education.
For additional input, we reached out to some of our language professors to get their thoughts on the value of language learning.
“In an increasingly connected and globalized world, speaking a foreign language allows access not only to another language but to another way of thinking and living and, therefore, opening the door to other cultures. This is fundamental to succeed in social relationships that we establish both work and leisure. When we work, we travel, etc. we will be more successful if we are able to communicate in another language-culture,” Laura Díaz, Bilbao, Spain.
“Today in a globalized world, being bilingual facilitates communication. It increases your value for a job and provides you with greater opportunities in the job market. Language learning also serves as a way of connecting, knowing AND understanding other people, their culture, customs, and traditions in a different way. Last but not least, it gives you flexibility when travelling, increases self-confidence and gives you security when you move to another country with a different language. When you master a new language traveling and working become more relaxed and meaningful. Knowing another language promotes creativity in different aspects of life and success for managing the various situations that life throws your way,” Errazkin Natalia, San Sebastián, Spain.
“Learning a foreign language enriches every aspect of your life. It will help you grow and make you become more open-minded,” Erika Nuccio, Viterbo, Italy
“Learning a foreign language allows students to communicate with a wider range of people. It changes their mindset, opening their lives to new ideas and perspectives. It drives them to self-reflection and helps them gain linguistic maturity, as they will have to be constantly comparing their own language with the one they are in the process of learning,” Jorge Isusi, San Sebastián, Spain.
