Tying a Fita in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil (Lucy Davis)

“Outside the Classroom” Honorable Mention
Lucy Davis (University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill) | Florianópolis, Brazil Spring 2014

“This is my friend tying a fita to the gate of the famous church in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil which is called Nosso Senhor do Bomfim. The legend is that you tie it on with three knots, and for every knot you tie, you make a wish. And when it falls off of where you tied it, your wishes will have come true! It was pretty cool to learn about the connection that the locals have with this tradition and learn about a part of their religion that makes it unique.”
