USAC Heredia professor Gustavo Chaves is a poet and storyteller who recently published a novel, Diario de Finisterre. The novel is told as though a discovered diary, trying to reconstruct the story of what actually happened. It is based, in part, on his own diary and experiences.
A book reading and reception was held at Instituto de México on March 20 in his honor. Students and colleagues from the USAC Heredia program attended the reading, book signing, and reception to follow to celebrate the book’s publication.
During his reading, he shared what inspired him to write his novel, based on actual life experience. It features plenty of humor, even though it was a very difficult time in his life. He uses a playful tone purposefully as his protagonist has to learn to live life not so passively or take it so seriously.
Professor Chaves was also interviewed in the daily newspaper, La Nacion. We are very proud to have him as part of our USAC Faculty.
