How does one go about summarizing the four most memorable months of their life? Even more difficult, how does one leave the place where they have found a second home? I am not sure how to give an answer without writing a novel, but I will start by saying that studying abroad in Heredia, Costa Rica has been a dream. This dream that I never want to wake up from has taught me a lifetime of lessons, given me friendships to last forever, and a mind full of unforgettable memories.
During my time here in Costa Rica, I have had the opportunity of obtaining an internship helping teach English to four different third grade classrooms. It has been beyond rewarding getting to help the kids with their reading, writing, and oral English skills. The kids in my school are always so excited to learn, which makes my job very easy! The best part of my internship is before I can even walk into the classroom, the kids are running up to me to give me a huge hug! I am so happy to have had this experience during my time abroad.
Another important aspect of my time abroad, has been my host family. I live with two host parents, my host sister and her new baby, oh and a few dogs! Living with a family has been one of the best parts about this program. I am so thankful that I have been able to get to know a different family, especially a family as nice as mine. Living with a host family was one the reasons I chose to study in Heredia, Costa Rica but, it never occurred to me that I would actually feel like a family member. While this makes leaving Costa Rica all the sadder, I know I will always have a second home to come visit.
I am forever grateful for the opportunities I have had while being abroad. This USAC program has given me more than I could have ever imagined, and for that I am beyond thankful. I will never forget the kindness of the people I have met here, nor will I forget how happy Costa Rica has made me feel.
