Bristol climbs in sustainability rankings

USAC England host institution ranks as top institution in sustainability rankings

The University of Bristol — host institution for the University Studies Abroad Consortium  (USAC) Bristol , England program — has ranked as the 5th most sustainable university in the U.K. by the largest international education network, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). According to a release from the institution, the 2025 QS World Sustainability Rankings also ranked Bristol as the 7th most sustainable university in Europe.

To be recognized as a sustainable institution, the school must demonstrate that they are meeting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Bristol conducts research and implements projects in the 17 categories of the SDGs, which include mitigating global challenges related to environmental sustainability, human equality, and economic growth.

Specific examples include building a new climate education program that trains people to run sustainability workshops, installing more solar panels and upgrading to electric vehicles, and limiting the carbon footprint required in their food services.

“This is an exciting moment for the University, and although we still have a long way to go, we are delighted that our efforts toward creating a more sustainable future have been recognized,” Prof Evelyn Welch, the University’s Vice-Chancellor and President, said.

In the category for Equality, which looks at an institution’s disability support and how their research improves global equality, Bristol ranked 2nd in the world.

Overall, Brisol ranked 12th best institution on the QS rankings, which evaluated 1,744 institutions in total. Even though the network added 341 institutions for consideration this year, and Bristol still climbed five places.  All institutions are analyzed through more than 50 categories.
